We're ready to have you and your students come visit us at the Scholastic Book Fair this week! A percentage of every dollar spent at the book fair goes to the R.H. Dana Elementary School Library, and will be used towards the purchase of new, library bound books for our school. Visit us in the library Monday through Thursday during lunch/recess or after school. We hope to see you at our general PTA meeting on March 14th right after the Friday morning assembly. It's time for the PTA to start planning for next year. We have board and committee positions opening up. Most of the current PTA members have filled their terms or have children who will graduate in the next year and there is no backfill, so we need new volunteers to step up!

We will also be discussing plans and FOOD for the upcoming Spring Carnival. We would love your input and any connections or ideas you may have. We'll meet in the MPR or you can join us on Zoom - link in bio.

This morning, our Girl Scouts celebrated Principal Nelson for being awarded Principal of the Year. They also made her an honorary Girl Scout! Congratulations, Principal Nelson. We love you and appreciate you all you do for our school!

There will be a $5 suggested entry fee per family, along with food, snacks, treats, drinks and GLOW merchandise for sale. Come support our school during a night of dancing and fun with friends! Neon or white clothing is fun attire for under the black lights!

Our pumpkin contest has begun! From now until October 30th we want to see how our whales are using their creativity to carve or decorate their pumpkins at home. Ten winners will receive a prize! To enter the contest simply DM us your photo here on Instagram. All photos will be displayed online and in our pumpkin patch by the MPR.

Speaking of food, we invite you to purchase a tapas passport so you can try small bites from our 7 featured countries. Meanwhile you can learn about these countries from the displayed created by each grade.

Food and activities will be ticket based. Avoid the lines and purchase tickets early! We can accept cash, check, credit card, Venmo or Zelle (we will have to add $1-2 for Venmo or Zelle to cover fees). Presales will be available Thursday, October 3rd after school and Friday, October 4th after the morning assembly.

We're excited to kick off the year's National PTA Reflections program, a national PTA initiative centered around the arts. This year's theme is Accepting Imperfection, and students may enter drawings, paintings, sculptures, music compositions, dance choreography, literature, and more into the competition. Entries are due Friday, September 20th.

At our Friday morning assembly today, we celebrated each grade moving up to the next grade level. It was bittersweet cheering on the 5th graders because we will miss them, but we are excited for the bright futures ahead of them. Congratulations to all of our whales! 🐋

Our Spring Cleaning Event is underway! This week, please drop off clean, gently used uniform clothing to school by Friday, April 19th. You will find bins placed on the table beside the office. We will also include a bin for any leftover eclipse glasses to send to South America for an eclipse happening in October over parts of Chile and Argentina.

Then on Earth Day, April 22nd, join us right after school at the picnic tables for a special Earth Day gathering. We will have earth-inspired crafts and a healthy snack at this eco-extravaganza! We will also be holding a swap and shop event from 1:30-3. While kids are busy crafting and snacking, parents can browse our upcycled uniform swap!

This Friday, students will attend an assembly for the last featured artist of Meet the Masters for this school year, Gustav Klimt. He is best known for his gilded, decorative portraits and landscapes, which often feature curved lines, gold leaf, and complex patterns. Klimt's most famous works include the portraits "Adele Bloch-Bauer I" and "The Kiss.” In their lesson next week, students will investigate his use of jewels, mirrors, gold, and silver to create his Golden Style of the early 1900s.

Today, our students were treated to a wonderful assembly, and they enjoyed spectacular performances of Baile Folklórico, presented by the @pacifico_dancecompany. They learned about various Mexican dances, cultures, and traditions celebrated throughout the country. Everyone even got to try some footwork!

Our Day of Love and Friendship was a success! The dance was so much fun and the hot chocolate social was a delicious way to end the day. Yum! Thank you to @ecc_earlychildhoodcenter for decorating the MPR, and to all the volunteers who donated and helped with the hot chocolate.

We will be having some fun on February 14th! During school, students will enjoy time in the MPR for a school dance. We are excited to have this opportunity to enjoy music and dancing with our classmates and staff.

After school, from 2-3 pm we will be holding our hot chocolate social. The kids can indulge in a cup of liquid happiness and socialize. We are in need of a few more crockpots and supplies. If anyone can assist in serving a cup full of warmth and happiness that would be fantastic. Also if anyone is able to bring Mexican Hot Chocolate we can serve that as well. ¡Nos divertiremos el 14 de febrero! Durante la escuela, los estudiantes disfrutarán de un baile en el MPR. Estamos emocionados de tener esta oportunidad de disfrutar de la música y bailar con nuestros compañeros y personal.

Después de clases, de 2 a 3 pm tendremos nuestra reunión social de chocolate caliente. Los niños pueden disfrutar de una taza de felicidad líquida y socializar. Necesitamos algunas ollas y suministros. Si alguien puede ayudar a servir una taza llena de calidez y felicidad, sería fantástico. Due to the possible rain, we are rescheduling the Glow Party for two weeks. The new date will be February 23rd from 6-8 pm. We apologize for any inconvenience, but since the party will be outside we want everyone to have fun and be dry. See you then!
